The Drawbacks of Oversleeping
All along, we are told that the average adult should sleep at least six to eight hours of sleep to recuperate and give time for the body to develop. What if we sleep beyond eight hours? There are people here in Singapore who love oversleeping so much that they fail to see its drawbacks.
Too much of something is not good. This is the time that we learn the disadvantages of oversleeping and make an effort to curb it. Here are some drawbacks of oversleeping that we should be aware:
- Headaches: You wake up and find yourself in distress because of a throbbing headache. Headaches are common for sleeping long periods because it can affect the neurotransmitters of the brain. The headaches will make it harder for you to start the day.
- Tiredness: Feeling tired after long hours of sleep is somewhat a surprise. You should feel energized but instead you feel terribly tired and lethargic. The reason for this is that long sleep will lower the body’s temperature which will eventually lead to tiredness as well as lethargy.
- Depression: Believe it or not oversleeping will ultimately lead to depression. The longer you sleep, the more time you deny yourself of endorphins because of physical activities. You must know that physical activities can increase your endorphins which will improve your mood.
- Erratic lifestyle: at the end of the day, oversleeping can affect our lifestyle. Our lifestyle will be erratic, inconsistent and unreliable because of too much sleep. We will feel regretful and complacent.
We need to establish a regular and healthy sleeping patterns if we want to be productive and happy. So, we have to abandon oversleeping and just settle with the ideal.
