Writing Like a Professional
Have you ever wondered what differentiates a professional writer from an amateur writer? Well, nobody really knows the answer except the obvious skill of writing but aside from that, what really makes someone a professional writer? Have you ever read a book where it was so beautifully written that you’ve wondered how on earth can someone written this beautifully? Well, have you ever payed attention to their writing? If you haven’t, you definitely should. Everyone has a unique style of writing which can be improved through practice, training, and basically the expansion of their knowledge.
Nothing beats learning from the professionals which is why we aren’t going to give you the direct ways for you to be able to write like a professional. Instead, we’ll be giving you certain things to watch out for and certain tips for you to follow when you are observing your favorite authors.
Here are a few things to look out for:
1. Explanation
How a certain author explains something is very important! You can learn a lot from how somebody talks about somebody else which is something you should definitely watch out for. Notice how the author describes the topic physically, what are his favorite words to use, then once you’ve made a list of his favorite words, find out the tone which he is writing with. This is a great way for you to put your shoes in the shoes of an author you look up to.
2. References
Now, even the people you look up to have people they look up to. Why not go a little further? Learn who influenced your influences. You might even stumble upon other great writers along the way. Learn as much as you can from the people whom your inspiration learns from. References are very important.
3. Importance
Look at which part of the whole work that the author gives the most importance to. Now, why is that? Well, that’s for you to find out. Knowing what is important to a certain writer says a lot about them.
Not everybody knows how to understand farther than the writing itself, you should look beyond the writing and also give importance to the author or writer. After all, if you were in that position of being a writer, you would most definitely appreciate it when people go beyond your writing and actually want to get to know about you. Not everybody is able to see beyond the visible. Some things carry a huge weight beyond what they seem and this is certain for most writings out there. The best way to write like a professional is to know the professional beyond the writing.
